It's amazing what strange conversations you can have with people who you don't talk to often:
Brettracer: well..Italy really hasn't had a decent mofia since the 60's
usf anh: oh, do you know this from experience?
Brettracer: um, yes.
Today I saw Jenny at Target. Not a adnormal thing. Then she took me aside and told me something really really sad. When Mrs. Beck and Chris came home from church today they found that Mr. Beck had shot himself. Tramahawk was called and he was taken to St. Mary's, but he didn't make it.

No one knew. No one had any idea that he was suicidal. Jenny said holidays are hard for him, but that was it. I can't even comprehend it. Chris is 16. He just got his license. School starts tomorrow. This morning Chris probably made jokes with his dad over breakfast and tonight he's with his mom, Erica, and Matt at the Iyce's, morning over his dad's death. I wish I could talk to him, to say something to comfort him. Just to give him a hug and tell him I love him and that he will get through this.

I know he will get through it. I have no doubts. He's a great guy with an awesome heart for God. He'll turn to Him and be comforted. But I know it's still just as hard. I can't even imagine how I would have reacted.

There is a hint of good in this. Chris plays guitar for our church's band. This morning he forgot his guitar. He wanted to go home and get it after Sunday school but Ray told him not to worry about it and sit back and enjoy the service. I can't imagine what would have happened if he had gone home.

Anyone reading this who knows God, please pray for Chris and Mrs. Beck. If you know Beck and are finding this out from me first, I'm sorry you had to find out like this.

    <lj:music>"Christmas Shoes" by New Song</lj:music>

The Christmas Shoes
It was almost Christmas time, there I stood in another line
Tryin? to buy that last gift or two, not really in the Christmas mood
Standing right in front of me was a little boy waiting anxiously
Pacing round like little boys do, and in his hands he held a pair of shoes
His clothes were worn and old
He was dirty from head to toe
And when it came his time to pay
I couldn?t believe what I heard him say

(Chorus) Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my mama, please
It?s Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy said there?s not much time
You see, mom?s been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if mama meets Jesus tonight

He counted pennies for what seemed like years
Then the cashier said, "Son, there?s not enough here"
He searched his pockets frantically, then he turned and he looked at me
He said, "Mama always made Christmas good at our house,
Through most years she did without
Tell me, sir, what am I going to do,
Somehow, I?ve got to buy these Christmas shoes."
I just had to help him out
And as I laid the money down
I?ll never forget the look on his face
When he said, "Mama?s gonna look so great."

(Repeat Chorus)

I knew I?d caught a glimpse of heaven?s love as he thanked me and ran out
I knew that God had sent that little boy my way
To remind me just what Christmas is all about

(Repeat Chorus)

I heard Cademan's Call last night and got their CD. One of the songs really hit me. I love the words and they really apply.
